Biotechnology is an integration of several sciences, applied to living cells, it is an interdisciplinary science encompassing not only biology. There are number of job opportunities in biotechnology today. Job prospects are available in drug and pharmaceutical research, public funded laboratories, chemicals, environment control, waste management, energy, agriculture, food processing and bio-process industries. Most biotechnologists find employment on a large scale in research laboratories run by the government of India. There are jobs in research and development, clinical research, regulatory affairs, information system and administration. Biotechnology has its application in medical processes like making antibiotics or genetic engineering. Biotechnology also plays a role in agricultural processes. Organisms can be used in food industry, beauty supplies, mining industries, recycling of waste etc.

Training in biotechnology is an advantage for science teachers. Elementary school teachers through college professors are including units on biotechnology in their science curriculums for a very good reason. Biotechnology's impact on human health, the food industry, and the other areas discussed in this brochure means that everyone will have to make decisions about the use of biotechnology product Biotechnology has provided law enforcement professionals with another way of placing a suspect at the scene of a crime. This area of study, called forensic biotechnology, uses a method called DNA fingerprinting. In India Biotechnology companies are setting up at a rate of 25-30% in the coming years. Biotechnology industry has become an over $500 million industry. Therefore this field is growing at a very fast rate there is a big demand for biotechnologists.

Eligibility Conditions:

1.The admission to first year in the course will be made as per Punjabi University, Patiala Guidelines.

2. Students who have passed in the +2 examination from a statutory university/Board or any other examination equivalent there to in Science stream (Med. and Non-Med.) will be eligible for the admission.

3. The student who have not been detained/declared fail or who have not been placed in the UMC category in the eligibility class & whose work and conduct has been declared to be satisfactory.

4.Admission will be made on merit basis.
